QUESTIONS?  Contact Barbara at barbara@sfwriters.org.  The scholarship winner will receive a registration for the event—including all regularly scheduled sessions, keynotes and social events during the main conference from Thursday, February 14th through Sunday, February 17th.   Also included are the Speed Dating for Agents session, two breakfasts, two lunches and the Opening Gala  Any other food, lodging, transportation, or incidentals would be up to the winner. Decision of the judges, selected by SFWC, is final. If you have already registered for the event, the scholarship can be applied to a future San Francisco Writers Conference or San Francisco Writing for Change Conference.

 

The Dr. Ellen Taliaferro ‘Writing to Heal’ Scholarship

Long-time friend of the SFWC, Dr. Ellen Taliaferro, is once again offering a scholarship for the San Francisco Writers Conference.

Theme: Writing to Heal.

Rules: Your submission can be an essay, journal entry, or any piece of prose that explains how writing helped you or others ‘heal’.  Dr. Taliaferro uses the Cami Walker story that lead to her book 29 Gifts (www.29gifts.org) and the classic, The Artist’s Way as examples.   Entries must be submitted electronically, under four pages, and double-spaced. No poetry, please.  Be sure to include your name, phone number and email address on your entry.  While not required, you may also include a short bio or any other pertinent information.  Entries must be sent to Ellen Taliaferro MD at  ellent@mac.com with the name of the scholarship in the message line.

The Victoria A. Hudson Emerging Writer Scholarship

The Victoria A. Hudson Emerging Writer Scholarship will award a registration scholarship to one emerging writer of any genre to attend the San Francisco Writers Conference, February 14-17, 2013. Scholarship covers registration fee only, does not include transportation, lodging, food (except what is included with registration) or speed dating with agents. The winner and runner ups (if any) will also receive a one year Sunshine membership to the San Francisco Writers University online community.

New in 2013: The winner will also receive a BookBaby standard eBook Publishing package ($149 value) generously donated by BookBaby.

Emerging writer is defined as: Does not have an agent or book contract, and writing is not your primary occupation/supporting you. You know if you are emerging. This is for the many still struggling and dreaming.

 Submission period is 1 September – 1 December, 2012. 

Guidelines:

Send three pages representative of your writing, plus a short essay not to exceed 500 words on the topic “I write because…” No identifying information should be on the writing sample or the short essay. In a sealed envelope place your cover letter with your name, mailing address, email, and a short Bio. Write only the title of your work and the genre on the outside of the envelope. Work will not be returned. Writers may enter more than one genre but should send separate entries. Any identifying information outside of the sealed envelope will disqualify your entry. This is a blind judged competition.  If you’d like confirmation of receipt, include a self addressed stamped post card.
